Language is linear. Images are perceived much more simultaneously. There is an openness in this. If you put images together, chains of associations are immediately created. Individual and collective memory intermingle in fractions of a second. I called this field of reference the Warburg universe, analogous to the text-oriented Gutenberg galaxy proclaimed by Marshall McLuhan.
