Once in 2020, Bettina Sefkow told me about the remaining stocks of the Buch Handlung Welt. What would happen to the bundle of books if they vanished permanently into an archive? What would remain of these and the books at all? We soon came up with the idea of a book that explicitly deals with the books. What remains of the books themselves, what zeitgeist do they convey? Do they still have a meaning for readers today? Which books are such a kind of cultural humus? It was then clear to us that we could not answer these questions. We would better ask people who have not experienced the book plot world themselves. That way we would perhaps avoid nostalgia. Inevitably, the books remained a topic and were presented in a provisional list. We asked around crosswise who wanted to take part. A representative cross-section cannot be achieved in this way. There is no such thing as objectivity, only the sum of many subjective statements. That's how these different contributions came together.
My own contribution, apart from co-editing and design, was the series of images Buch Handlung Welt Bücher Bilder, and this work developed further with Buch Handlung Welt Bücher Bilder Box.
