le tour
In 1959, the Deutsche Bibliothek (German Library) moved to a modern new building in the Zeppelinallee in Frankfurt / Main, with the so-called Bücherturm as its distinctive architecture.
In 1997, with German reunion and the founding of the German National Library at a new location, this book tower was demolished.
This reminded me of the book tower in Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose, an exclusive place of knowledge storage. After the discovery of the secret of the murders in the monastery, the tower burns down. I combined this scene from the movie from 1986 with the historical images of the Frankfurt tower on printing plates.
