Claim or fence can't really explain the origin of the term "Friedung". The meaning is to keep peace in a fenced area, by fencing in. Within the fenced area the ways all actions, property and rules are defined. This order defines and guides a specific space. From one moment to the other a catastrophe may devastate the land and wash away all pieces of that form and order.
The fence easements of Friedung was put together have been unlike their area spread extension been laid, accumulated to some kind of tower. Some parts still refer to their original honeycomb like pattern, others more on top are bursting out if this mess.
