The first chapter of Fortress of Solitude is dedicated to the coast and surf, interface between the land, habitat of humans, and the sea. With Meere und Sterne (Seas and Stars), it moves into new worlds and begins with storytellers, explorers and seafarers. Strange encounters arise from which new moments of history develop. Next to these worlds of dreams and thoughts is Farrah Fawcett in a red swimming costume, the motif of the world's best-selling poster. 12 000 000 and one makes the picture unique again, on it are painted the title motifs of books, like The World Set Free. A whirlpool has torn the coral-red oars off course, and on the floor next to this Mälström is the Divided Voyage, a former racing single in signal colour. On the grey wall are the voids of memory, the missing faces of Meere und Sterne (seas and stars) like unexplored atolls.
